Burkina Faso Day

August 5th, 1960, marked the independence of Burkina Faso, formerly known as Upper Volta, from French colonial rule.  Since then, the "Land of Upright People" has become known not only for its integrity but for its cultural richness and tenacious spirit.

From the rhythmic drums of Bobo-Dioulasso to the resilience seen in every Burkinabé village, this is a country that meets adversity with strength and unity.  What defines Burkina Faso is not just its struggle, but its courage to rise repeatedly.  Independence Day is a reaffirmation of national purpose to build a future grounded in honesty, education, and peace.  It reminds us that greatness lies not in size or wealth, but in the character of its people and their unwavering vision.
